RESEARCH AGENDA (2013-2016)

The research agenda of the University of the Immaculate Conception are primarily based on the research priorities of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Food and Nutrition Research and Department of Health (DOH) and such other agency (ies) relative to the courses offered by the university which highlight contributions to community in particular and to the society in general.

BUSINESS EDUCATION

A vital element in securing sustained economic growth and stability is through having a research-based economy. Cognizant to this, the RPC aims at providing baseline information that may help to better understand the needs and prospects of Philippine economy. Priorities shall be given to researches which will impact the Philippine economy with focus in Davao City and its neighboring provinces. Studies like poverty alleviation, micro, small and medium enterprises, employment and trade, export, globalization and investment are encouraged.

HUMANITIES and SOCIAL SCIENCES

The thrusts of the RPC in the areas of humanities and social sciences focus on promoting appreciation of our cultural heritage. It aims at instilling a value of history, culture and arts, and the distinct identities of indigenous communities.  Studies in this area, which are geared at affirming respect and rights of Filipinos, include Philippine and Mindanaoan culture and arts, gender issues, languages and dialects, peace talks, religion and morality issues.

EDUCATION

As the society becomes increasingly knowledge-based, the quality of education is vital in the holistic formation of an individual and a nation. With this as an impetus, and with the apparent pressing issues in Philippines Educational System, the Research Thrusts of UIC in Education is directed towards the elevation of the quality of education by looking into the broad ecology of the system. Studies on the following are given priorities: utilization of faculty research outputs for educational enhancement, job performance and job statistics, alternative education program for out-of-School youth, system of education in remote communities and board examination performance.

HEALTH

The thrust of the RPC in the field of health is directed at providing baseline data on the solutions of the nation’s health problems and on providing a better quality of life to Filipinos. As we articulate a vision of healthier life for everyone, our researches under this thrust are geared towards the promotion of wellness in the community through the following studies: reproductive health, morbidity and mortality in the community, health and hygiene of people, access to healthcare, quality of life of the elderly, mental health, nutrition, development of biological products and ethnomedicinal studies.

SCIENCE and TECHNOLOGY

Environmental issues, biotechnology and information technology (IT) are the focal points of the research activities on Science and Technology. These thrusts are responses of the university to the need of upgrading basic and applied sciences and to support the enhancement of technology in the country. Topping the research priorities for the sciences are: critical issues on environment like environmental management, pollution control, biodiversity and mining. For technology, the priorities include the following: development of software or hardware with commercial value, infrastructure, transportation facilities, and gadgets for disaster control, drainage and sewerage.

RESEARCH PROGRAMS

KAPAPANATA Project

Kapaligiran at Pangkarunungang Pananaliksik Para Sa Tao

“Kapapanata” is a Filipino word which means uttered pledge.  In its entirety, the word connotes declared commitment for a significant cause.  As a major endeavor of the University of the Immaculate Conception (UIC) Research and Publication Center, the KAPAPANATA Project is a blueprint of the university’s series of collaborative researches allowing synergy and partnership with selected HEIs in Davao City.  This program aims to complete studies and investigations relevant to environment and knowledge-quest for man through sharing of intellectual and technical resources among the academic institutions of Davao City. With that goal, UIC opens its doors to interested allies to work and commit for the success of this joint effort.

 

3K + T Program (Kalusugan, Kapaligiran, Kultura, at Teknolohiya) Para sa Dabaw

The 3K + T Program (Kalusugan, Kapaligiran, Kultura, at Teknolohiya) Para sa Dabaw is an institutional research program of the University of the Immaculate Conception that sustains the existing research projects of the university.  It showcases research outputs that are aligned to the research thrusts and agenda, and centered on health, environment, culture, and technology to primarily address the social concerns of Davao City residents.

 

“Titser Ko, Mentor Ko,”

A partnership between a UIC faculty and some junior UIC researchers (graduating or non graduating students) who will be working on some approved institutional researches funded by UIC.
